MY ROOSTER

i have a rooster and four chicks and i dont seem to see him mating with them i dont know how old he is as we got him from a farm that people dump ther unwanted chicken there, is there any signs apart from the obvious that i will know if he is doing anything i would be glad of anyones help please

Are the girls laying? If not, he's probably just a gentleman and is waiting until they're ready. If they are laying, the easiest way to check for fertility is to crack open one of their eggs. Look on the yolk for a very faint spot. If its a circle without a dot inside, its not. If its a bullseye.....well, bullseye marks the spot (or chick ).
