On June 8th, our Blue Silkie hen, Caroline, went broody on 5 Silkie eggs. I have never hatched chicks in an incubator, or had a broody hen hatch chicks. Is there anything I need to provide for the hen after the chicks hatched? We had a friend who's Cochin hen killed all her chicks. How common is this? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? The hen currently lives in a cage with a Black Silkie rooster named Dot. He is very kind and not very dominant. When the chicks hatch, we're going to move the hen and her chicks to a separated place in the coop. Can we move the Silkie rooster with her? Will he hurt the chicks?
Thanks!
Thanks!
