This is a "pictures and stories of my flock" but I posted it here, for people that like ducks.

I hatched some eggs from my Welsh Harlequin drake and Khaki Campbell hens recently. I wasn't able to find many photos online of what they might look like. So, here's a whole heap of photos of what they look like, for anyone that's interested.

First, the bio parents. Thomas Ferdinand, Daniela, Anastasia.

I put 5 eggs under my broody muscovy Emmylou and all 5 hatched, just after 26 days.
Here they are on hatch day and broody mum.

Five days old. Two are lighter brown, one with white eyeliner. One brown with eyestripes. Two are dark with eye stripes, one with white eyeliner. Gender reveal hidden for those that want to guess. The three on the right with eyestripes were male.

Close up one week old.

Close up, just over two weeks old. Starting to get some chonk.

Nearly 4 weeks and a close up. Starting to feather. Getting chonky.

Nearly five weeks. More feathering, looking quite raggedy.

6 weeks, you can tell the sex by the patterning on their lower back. The one at the fore and the rightmost two are males, the patterning fades away rather quickly. Also their heads are starting to get a green sheen.

At 7 weeks it's easier to see. The two at fore are the females, patterning on lower back much more uniform.

A couple days later. Always giving me side eye.

Final photo of all 5 together at 8 weeks. They were eating far too much for my liking 😅, I sold the two girls and the boy at the front. Sneaky photobomb from Wanda.

The remaining boys about a week later. Right one's head is getting greener, some nice blue on their wings.

Final day for this guy at nearly 10 weeks. Trigger warning. I ate him.

Final boy at just over 10 and 11 weeks. With his new best bud, 2.5 week younger half sister welsh harlequin. I may post her story at a later date.

Last photo was from a few days ago. I'll keep updating with more photos of final boy when I can. He's currently molting from "teenage" feathering to his adult(?) feathering and getting those curly tail feathers.

For anyone interested, I'm happy to answer any questions.

They’re beautiful 🥰 thanks for sharing. In my experience whenever I mix breeds they come out various shades of browns. These 4 lovely little ladies I hatched this year are 3/4 fawnwhite runner, and 1/4 cayuga.

Might as well post this here too. Best mum Emmylou hatched some more eggs a couple of weeks ago. Again all 5 egg I gave her hatched. 3 of the eggs were Emmy's, so they are hinnies (Thomas was the dad), and the other two were most likely WH x KC again. This time they hatched a full 3 days earlier than the hatch date, I'm guessing she runs hot when sitting. (Because of the different incubation times, I gave her her own 3 eggs first, then the other 2 eggs 3.5 days later. They all hatched around the same time.)

Here's all 5 on hatch day.

And from a few days ago.

Based on absolutely no experience, only observing their behaviour and appearance, I think the two dark ones are the WH x KC, and the chocolate and two yellow ones are the hinnies. The yellow ones are always going off on their own, trying to catch flies and doing their own thing.

My Muscovy girls are the best incubators around.
Funny thing is, Siobhan my grey muscovy has not been great at it 😅. The first time I gave her eggs, she ate most of them and gave up after a couple of weeks.

The next time, Wanda (the white muscovy) was sitting on 2 welsh harlequin eggs and Siobhan decided to join her and co-brood. This ended up not being ideal. Both hatched late, one on day 30, and the other on day 31. Then one got stepped on and died.

Worse still, they refused to leave their nest to look after the new duckling. They were determined to keep sitting on nothing and I couldn't break them. Little guy had to sit with mums the whole time to stay safe. Since I couldn't break them, I decided to give them another 3 eggs to sit on. One got cold at around 2 weeks and the other two got eaten right before lockdown. Over 2 months of broodiness and they still wanted to keep sitting on nothing. This time I managed to break them and they finally started co-parenting little guy. (Little guy (actually a girl) is the welsh harlequin (with final boy) in the previous posts.)

That was over a month ago, now Siobhan is broody again. I'm giving her a chance to redeem herself 😅. She's just started sitting on 3 of her own eggs and (same as Emmy) I'll give her some Welsh Harlequin x Khaki Campbell eggs after 3.5 days. We'll see how she does this time 🤞.

lol they can sure try our patience. I finally just gave up on trying to break mine when they went broody on nothing.
I have had a few that weren't the best mamas but I always had one that would take anyone else's ducklings they didn't want. My girls are all old now 2 are 14 the youngest 13 but one of my 14 yr olds did lay a few eggs this past spring and she also hatched Runners when she was 12. My Muscovy flock have mostly died of old age. They are sure a hardy breed one reason I love them.

I hope this time Siobhan does really well and hatches some precious ducklings. Keep us updated.

Well, Wanda has tried to squish in and co-brood with Siobhan now. Probably as payback for the previous time Siobhan did it with her.

With how it turned out last time, I wasn't having any of that. I "convinced" Wanda to sit in her own nest and gave her 4 eggs (2 WH, 2 WHxKC). I gave her some extra hay to pad out the box. 😅

Siobhan is now sitting on 6 eggs, 3 of her own and one of each from my normal ducks.
