    Fellow poultry enthusiasts,

I haven't raised poultry since the early 70's but a friend from 1959 {the fourth grade]
who is the manager of the Aggie feed store, brought me some chickens and guineas a few years ago...
I started building cages out of whatever I could find and have been raising chickens ever since.
I am beat up and disabled but I managed to build the 'Show Coop' with $30. here and $40. there.
It has taken 3 years so far and isn't finished yet,
as the corner post bracing need 10 spot welds
and the nylon top is awaiting that.
But I have a good picture of the 'Show Coop'

Next project is to come up with $450. for the 'one year old'
$700. Georgia Quail Farms incubator I found.
Then 6 - 8' x 10' breeder coops, and more grow out cages and I will consider myself
    'In the poultry business'.

I lost an entire years hatch because of a styrofoam incubator.
Another because of a power failure.
But year #3... hatched 131 'Rhode Island Reds' and raised 80 to adulthood selling them for $1,000.00
ie. $10 for Roosters and $15 for hens.
And would have done better since I can sex eggs now.
Of course the feed cost was about $700.
but with less Roosters and more hens,
hay and grass to help out with the feed bill,
I think I can get that amount down some.

If I can make $400. off 100 chickens,
then I can make $4,000.00 off 1,000 chickens!

Y'all, I have been reading and posting on some other part of the 'Backyard'.
    'Coops and Runs' I think.
But I see there is a lot more poultry folks here on
'the Forum'. My name is Jack and I make knives...
I go by Jack the Knife, J. Knife, or just Knife to my friends.
I 'write' under J. Winters von Knife
as Winters is my middle name
and I am of 25% German extraction.

    Thank you...

Nice to meet you, Knife [IMG] I am rather new here, too. I have been lurking for months, but just joined the forum, when I inherited my 3 little banties from my favorite aunt just after she passed away last month.
I checked out your "jacksknifeshop" link. Nice job on your site! I have to tell ya...your poem about your wonderful companion, "Barry" made me cry [IMG] , but I loved it.
Hope to see you around the message board [IMG]
