So I had a thread going on my hen but it has gone another direction and I am hoping to get any advice if anyone else has seen this or any advice at all! Chickenzoo has been wonderful to me but isnt sure what it is either so I was hoping someone else will recognize it. It seems to be getting worse and she is my little sweetie :(

She is a 16 month old silver laced wyandotte. She was limping for about a week and it slowly got a little better until one morning I noticed, she was basically back to normal! That same day, I came home from lunch and she was limping worse than ever! UGH. That was about a week ago and she has not gotten any better.

She is definitely in pain because she doesnt walk much, limps terribly, and lays down a lot. If she isnt laying down, she usually is just standing on her good leg. I have been giving her aspirin but I dont think it seems to be helping. I have had her confined almost 24/7 for the past few days. I have looked EVERYWHERE and felt everything but nothing feels abnormal (though I know little to none about things like this) All I can see is the redness on her leg

I asked my vet who I give thousands of dollars to with our 10 "normal' pets but she said no to taking an xray. I told her I wouldnt expect an answer and she can charge me whatever. Maybe we could just send it to someone in the cities that may know. They had no pets there and were dead.... like talking and laughing around in the back dead. But she still said no. I just left in tears I was so mad.

This is her leg 3 days ago

This is it today

Look up on here Doc Peter Brown..... He deals with a lot of poultry and talks to people by phone for a small fee I think. Perhaps if you send him the pics he may have an answer. I wish I had the university of Gainsville poultry specialist guys number... I'd give it to you to call... :(
I hope some ones recognizes it. The only other thing I could think of is something inbeding itself under her leg scales into the skin...

Could it be from a bite? Or a staph infection? Did you try cold compresses? I'm not sure if epsom salts soaks would be good for it or irritating. And I can't think of anything else to try but antibiotics. Very strange.

The www.firststatevetsupply.com/ site is no longer running which is the first link that google gives me. Is it a radio talk guy? I am trying to figure out how to reach him but I dont really see anything. I did run into some great things that people have said about him!

I wonder if I should try an epsom soak? Maybe that would help free anything that could be imbedded if anything. If it would be irritating, it wouldnt be excruciating for her, would it? Then I could try cold compressing it after?

I am 99% it couldnt be from a bite. They are enclosed in there run unless I am around to watch them free range. And even if I wasnt watching, I am super lucky to not have any predators around besides a dog next door who has yet to discover them.

I have epsom from walgreens but it is the lavender soak. It basically is epsom with fragrance. That should be ok, right?

Ok, I found another spot... most likely the painful area. I gave her a 1/2 hour bath with epsom and after some relaxing cuddle time I looked it over some more. MUCH easier to look around when the feathers are wet. And after I felt that area, it does feel different than the other side. Not sure how to explain it but maybe has more of a lumpy feel

Looks like she may have a major infection. I personally would take her to a vet and get her on the right antibiotic, and not mess around. Save the leg.

I will call the vet tomorrow but they are 2 hours away. AND I am not sure if they will even see her/chickens. Unfortunately there is no way I can get out of work tomorrow, my boss isnt very understanding. So hopefully Tuesday.

Should I do anything in the mean time. I am very nervous!
