Last night around 9pm while on my way to feed and water everyone I saw a set of eyes in the woods. I have a nifty spotlight/flashlight headband that I wear when I go out after dark. I could definately tell that they were not chicken eyes glowing at me. As I got closer I could tell that it was a cat sitting on a tree stump on the opposite side of the chicken coop. At first I thought that it was just a large cat but it was the largest cat that I have ever seen. When I got closer to it the cat ran off to another tree stump and watched as I fed and watered the chickens and bunnies. I tried to get a better look at it but it was very dark even with my headlight. This extra large cat looked like it was gray striped. I looked at pictures online of bobcats and they don't seem to have the same color pattern as this mystery cat. Any ideas of what might be roaming around in the Georgia backwoods??

If it was bobcat, it would most likely taken off.

That's good to know! I don't mind it staying around to eat mice and pocket gophers as long as it leaves the chickens & ducks alone. It didn't seem to be bothering anyone last night...just watching very closely.

It could have been a Maine Coon cat or a mix of. Maine Coons can get to about 30 lbs easily though the breed standard says they should only grow to 25 lbs. Here is the wiki info on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Coon .

Thanks for the link! That may have been what it was. Hopefully I can get a picture of it if I see it in the daytime. I really hope its not a "bad" cat!
