I'm totally new to chickens so bear with me. I got 8 older chicks from someone on Craigslist. They said they were a speckled Sussex or mix with SS. Does anyone have a guess what the darker ones are mixed with? They were sold as straight run, but I'll have to get rid of any roosters. I'm thinking that the ones with the larger combs? on their faces are roosters?

Thanks! That's what I was thinking. I think I'll end up with 5 cockerels and 3 pullets. I don't have the space for 8 in this coop, but I'll be sad to see them go. I'm really enjoying them all so far. I only have an age estimate of about 3 months, but do I have to worry about them fighting soon?

3 months looks about right. If I had to guess, they are likely Speckled Sussex - Gold Laced Wyandotte mixes.

Sibling cockerels usually get along just fine until about 10-12 months old. Some never do fight due to dominance and pecking order being established a long time ago. Unless a new bird is added in, then the pecking order establishment starts all over again.

Tried to get some more pictures of my little mutts. I think all 5 will either be going to another home or culled. It breaks my heart :/ they just started warming up to me.
