Hello all! I'm a long time lurker, but this is my first post. Thank you all for your advice in advance.

We have been losing chickens randomly for the last few months. Had the state poultry health guy out yesterday and he inspected our girls and said they seemed really healthy. Said he didn't see any signs of mites, worms or disease. He took samples, so we will know for sure within the week.

The thing is, they are dying at night on the roost. We find them in the morning completely intact. He thinks we have a "varmit" problem, but he offered no more advice on it.

So I ask you, the experts :)

What would kill a chicken, but not eat it?
They still have all their color (so it's not sucking their blood). Also, it's not every night, but it does seem to be in the same part of the coop.

We reinforced and inspected everything, but didn't see any signs of predators. We live in West Virginia, if that helps.

    Took samples?
Will they take a dead bird for necropsy?
