Have 2 roosters that are both supposed to be cuckoo Marans. Are they or are they something else.

This is the one I'm most curious about cause he doesn't look anything like my other cuckoo Roo

IMHO, I think roo #1 (Charlie) is a Cuckoo Maran, and roo #2 (CJ?) could be a younger Barred Rock roo even though its legs are not that yellow... My Barred Rock hen doesn't have bright yellow legs either, but she is definitely a Barred Rock.

Also CJ's bars are crisper (to me) like a Barred Rocks. CJ has the barring like my young Barred Rock roo.

Can't be a Dominique (right leg color) as its comb is wrong (straight vs. rose)...at least the comb looks like a straight comb from the photo...which is a little blurry. If it is developing a rose comb, it might be a Dominique.

My thoughts as I develop my eye. I am learning there is a lot of variation in the real world with hatchery and feed store stock.

    My thoughts.

The first rooster, Charlie, looks like a Marans. See how his pattern had more of a "V" in it, as opposed to straight lines like the other bird? That's cuckoo patterning, the straight lines are barring. The second bird is barred, but only one parent was barred, he's not pure barred or he's be overall lighter like Charlie.
