I have a new Quarter Horse filly born Sept. 12th and cannot choose a name! Please help! I'm not looking for anything "cute", maybe a western type of name.
I will send the winner a bag of Kaytee dried mealworms to treat their chickens.

    Contest ends Friday, Sept. 21

First picture is today, second picture is a day old, 3rd is just after birth.

    GORGEOUS!

Kind of reminds me of an ice cream flavor.

How about Swirl, Cookies N Cream, Rocky Road or something like that?

She was a surprise. Her mother "Dutchess" (not named by me, I call her Lady) was bought at auction as an unregistered quarter horse. 4 months later it was discovered that she was pregnant. We have no idea who the sire is. I like the names Rocky, Rusty and Shiloh a lot. But she is a girl and I know my son would object. The gelding that lives with them is named Ruger. He is also a paint.

Well, working off Ruger, you could call her Pistol, Bullet, or Winchester.
Working off Duchess...........I got nothin'. I also don't do "cute" names, Princess, etc.

You could call her Rocki, make it a feminine.

I also like Cheyenne, Tulsa, Cricket and Reno.

Or, just call her little girl and let her tell you her name in a few weeks. That works well around here.

    Wow--what a beautiful little one!

    You must be beaming...

    Three ideas:

    1. Something with Snow: Snowfoot, Snowfeather--or Snowball, for her cute "star"!

    2. Something with Cloud: Thundercloud, Ladycloud, Cloudchaser...

    3. Ptarmigan--she reminds me of a ptarmigan! Also known as a Snow Chicken, Willow Grouse, etc., the folklore is neat:

    "Folklore
In Finnish Lapland, the Willow Grouse was considered "The bird of God" and represented purity, often being associated with females. In some parts of the country, parents would hang the legs and wings of a white grouse over a baby girl's cot to make sure she grew up virtuous. In Finnish folklore the willow grouse, like other birds of the grouse family, were considered spirit messengers.

In parts of Japan, the Willow Grouse is literally called the "thunder bird" (raichou) and according to legend protects people and buildings from fire and thunder.

Whatever you call her, she is lovely.
