Our 2 1/2 year old hen had been hunched up and ruffled for about a week. After several days of decline we decided to cull.

A necropsy immediately revealed very ballooned intestines. They appeared normal until a very hard section and then it was bloated after that. When cut open, the hard section was actually thick tissue that only had a narrow opening through it.

Could that have been coccidiosis? Is there something else that could have caused that? I considered cocci, but due to her age and the cold weather, I thought it was unlikely.
