ok all you dpg gurus out there I have a hard case coming in likely today. and would love some advice on raw feeding him. He is severely wasted 3 years old and very malnurouished. I will enclose the picture I was sent.

Now how would I go about introducing him to raw feeding, should I go with soft cooked first? then gradully work him to raw as he gains the weigt and health back?
I dont want to over tax his stomach first and formost. so thinking hamburg and rice put through the grinder?

I havent been able to get this dog out of my mind since I recieved the email picture, I am vry cranky over this siation that could have ,should have been avoided at all costs.
any help or suggestons are greatly appreiated.

What pisses me off the most is this woman was more than happy to pose the dog like this for a picture.

Um, that looks like a healthy boxer to me. Look at the thigh muscles, and the muscles over his ribs. They'd be atrophied if he were starving.

Boxers are NATURALLY very thin, high energy dogs. The lady has nothing to hide, of course she would pose him for you.

Why would you want to feed him raw food? That's just ASKING for a problem. Give him some high calorie dog food and get him back on his feet.

This is a pic of an AKC pointed show dog in prime show condition. They are supposed to be thin.

Thin is one thing what this picture is showing is totally not healthy, I am heading out to pick him up now and when I get back and after an eval I will posst another picture.
also when a dog is on its hind legs the muscles will in fact look like they are healthy. we will see what is truely the case when I get back
give me 2 hours and I will repost.

My ex-in-laws raised Boxers and assorted Bulldog breeds. They spoiled the crap out of those dogs, to the point of the dogs eating better than the people in the house. Their boxers looked like the one in your top pic if they stood up on their hind legs. He might be a little underweight but not severely, his ribs would be really sticking out to where you could see every individual one in detail.

From that picture he does look a little thin to me, but not as badly as I was expecting. I'll definitely be interested to see a new picture though. Sometimes pictures can really distort the truth!

Whether he's thin or not, I'm happy to see he will be going to a loving home!

Did you notice the lack of muscle on the hips and around the shoulders? You should not see the outline of the hips protruding. Boxers are lean alright but they are lean muscle...that dog is malnourished.

I would skip the raw stuff for awhile...get a good high protein food and mix some rice and ccoked ground hamburger or liver in there for him. He can bounce back pretty well. Get him where he needs to be, get his health checked and then slowly change to a raw diet if you wish. I personally do not like the raw diet but to each his own.
