Ned feed advice on amalnourished Boxer ( pic added) warning graphic !!

He is definitely underweight...but its very hard from the angle to tell how underweight. At any rate with raw...you can start feeding it right away as is...but I would slowly add it to whatever dry food he's had (if he's been getting anything...). I would give him dry food for at least a week or so..and then start introducing the raw...maybe start him off with a chicken wing section for a couple days, then do 2, then give him something a little bigger like a turkey neck or something for a couple days...etc etc. I would add organs last. He may get a little upset tummy, but if you do it slow it shouldn't be too bad....or he may have no problems at all. My dog had no trouble whatsoever transitioning to raw....although he was on a good kibble (Natural Ultramix). If you want to try to be even more sure that he won't have troubles you could try transitioning him to a higher quality kibble before going to raw, as it will put the nutrient levels closer to what is in raw. Nature's Variety would be a good one to do that with (they even do a freeze dried raw coating on their kibble!).

I am back from the Vets, notice I said I.
The Dog is still there. and will be over night.
Heavy parasite load internally and externally.
You can count each individual rib, each individual bone in his spine.
He is lacking any muscle tone in his shoulders and legs.

and I would be remiss to not include the Pit Bull we also slung out of there, yes slung, as in transported out with the use of 2 jackets and carried.
My truck smells worse than a manure pile that hasnt been turned over properly.
I didnt take pictures because there is going to be an investigation. The Boxer will be able to come home here tomorrow mid morning, once he is here I can take pictures and post them.
Both dogs are severely mal nourished and both are on IV Fluids, there is little hope for the Pitt though.

The Boxers name is Rocket and will be living with me for the duration of the invcestigation and treatments.
such a sad place to be for him right now. I cried all the way home from the vets. No animal should have to endure what he has and will have to to be rehabbed.
The hardest part of all this is the "Rocket" is such a sweet trusting sad faced little soul.
I will keep everyone up dated as to his progress when he gets home tomorrow.
He will be altered just as soon as his weight will allow for it.

the poor things!!

I hope both of them make it through it! ...its not that freakin hard to feed a dog...

Man I can't stand people who mistreat animals, My pets come before my husband and myself, if we had 20 bucks to our name and needed dog food and food for ourselves, we will by the dog food, and live off rice if we had to. Poor dogs. Thank you for saving them, and even if the pit doesn't make it, at least he is warm right now and being taken care of, not dying in someones backyard without a friend in the world. Thank you soo much

Animal Rescue cases are so sad. The ones that turn out happy just warm everyone's heart that is involved. It is not easy, mentally. Hopefully that little boxer will be one of the heartwarming situations, and he can go on to find his forever home. This site is so full of animal lovers, I know a lot of people will be thinking about you and Rocket and anxiously awaiting updates! You are fantastic for doing this,

Good for you, Rocket looks like a beautiful Boxer, we rescued one this year from the animal shelter, a Brindle, and when we took him to the vet, she said she should see ribs faintly, but not the spine or hip bones, and to be careful not to let him get fat... I would have thought he was starving, not just a little thin. He was also depressed and was apparently strictly disciplined, but not loved. He is not safe towards other dogs walking by or out in public off a leash, is this typical with Boxers or did he just not get properly socialized as a pup? He is extremely safe with my older kids, even letting them tackle him, etc, and lets my old dogs steal his food...so its a puzzle, he is definitely the low man on the totem pole, although the youngest and strongest....btw, he is very happy now, part of the family and Boxer bounces a lot!
Good luck with Rocket, please send more pics of him!
