Going to start building a SHOW COOP/ CHICKEN BARN!

1. 10 X 40 building with 4 seperate coops of 5 X 12 w/ outside runs.

2 middle 10 X 16 for brooder and small chick pin!

3. Concrete flooring

4. built in individual pins for show birds a long back wall.

5. Heat?

Ok this is my big concern HEAT. I live in Indiana (cold winter) what is a good heat source for a chicken house? Then on the individual pins should I use no wire because of feather damage for the show birds?

My plane is to put all of our coops under one roof. Any info on this new undertaking would be very helpful.

Chickens will do fine without heat. Their feathers keep them warm. They need ventilation without drafts, food, and water.

When summer comes in this building, keeping the chickens cool may be a bigger problem.

Sounds like a very well thought out coop. In my first coop I used insulation. My birds are free range, so the summer heat isn't a problem, and I noticed the insulation raised the temperature quite a bit. I have a buddy who keeps a small woodstove near his coop and runs pipe through it. It's was a little out there (and a lot of work) even for me, but his birds were very, very happy.

Anyways, it sounds awesome.

Good luck!
