Hello! I'm new here and a new chick owner! I have 7 wonderful chicks! I have one right now that has me worried! This lil lady seems sleepy and isn't growing as fast as her sisters? She eats, drinks, poops, and plays. Her crop seemed very large last night so I took her food away( she is isolated right now incase she's sick) this morning her crop seemed fine. So I put her food back in.Tonight her crop is huge again! Way bigger then her sisters? So I'm not exactly sure what to do or if it's normal? Thanks in advance [IMG]

    Hello, and [IMG]!

If your chick's crop was normal this morning after you took her food away and then swelled up again after she ate I would conclude that she is a greedy little chick who likes to eat and then falls into a food coma. If her behavior is normal at this point, I wouldn't worry about her [IMG]

Now, if she becomes extremely lethargic and begins to not eat or drink, or if her crop does not return to normal size when she hasn't eaten in a while, that would be cause for concern. I have raised hundreds of chicks and I have never had one with true crop issues, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. I would let her be for now and continue to monitor her behavior like you have been. Good luck!

Sounds like a normal chick. In the evening they eat before they go to sleep. Some eat more than others ( bigger crop) the food is processed while sleeping and the crop will be empty in the morning. Her crop being empty in the morning shows its working like it should. Hope this helps.
