Lately I've had a few chickens end up at my house from people who got chickens at TSC or similar this spring and ended up with (or think they ended up with) boys. I am not 100% sure about a few of them, so am bringing them to the experts.

These two came to me about a month ago and the lady said the gray one was crowing, but I haven't heard a single crow from either of them. Thoughts? And are they satins? She said they were silkies, but, I'm leaning more towards tiny satins at this point. They haven't grown much since I got them and are now about 4 months old. They are the sweetest and snuggliest little chickens ever.

The next are these two. The girl that had these said they were black orpingtons, but these two have two different tail and body structures. These guys are a little wild and getting pictures didn't go so well, but can anyone tell me if one of these is something other than an orpington and what he may be? The tail on the one in the background is more pointing straight up than the one in the front.

Thanks for looking!

You’re right the top two are not silkies. The first black one doesn’t look like an Orpington to me but the second does. Orpington tails are shorter and boofier. Not a word I know 🤣but you get it!

Haha - these were my thoughts. I have heard some crazy things this year from new chicken keepers. I almost suspect the satins(?) are hens, to top all. I have a small flock of similar looking satins myself, but these are smaller and very slightly different.

Got a few more pics of these... They hatched in March.

The lighter one has the coolest blue ears under his "hat". So I'm pretty sure they are satins of some sort, but would love to have an idea on the sexes.
