It holds 100lbs of feed which is nice for the winter. They don't eat much during the summer since they free range.

My husband built this. We got the idea from another BYC member. This is the best feeder idea I've ever seen. I like that the box sits on the outside of the coop and there's only a small tray inside. I have a shelf above it, so they don't poop in their food. We built this originally for 7-8 chickens. Now we have 20.:/

Here's a finished look, except the heater is in. We take the heater out in the summer time.

Our nest boxes are on the other side

Quote: There are two or three threads below yours that have a lot of information about building PVC feeders to go in your coop. Just scroll down a little and you will see several topics about the subject. I built some Pvc feeders myself and like them much better than the wooden feeders, they are much easier to clean and bugs wil not penetrate the pvc like they will eventually with wood. The thread I started about my feeders is Custom built--No Waste--PVC Feeders (click the blue title). I like these things so much and they work better than I ever expected. There is no waste what so ever because the birds have to stick their heads just slightly inside the pipe to eat and they aren't able to fling the feed out, it doesn't bother them at all I think they kind of like it.
