OK its been a bit since I had older chickens, just got restarted this spring. I just adopted two under weight 3 year olds. They came froma situation where the lady was overwhelmed and she was feeding bread and peas. Any way their feathers are all broke. Is it maybe a molting thing or is it possible to get their feathers healthy with time. I added a pick of a few from the Sussex. They both seem dull and rough. But otherwise pretty healthy.

It's probably more to do with an incomplete diet and poor or low protein. I would offer them up a high protein meat bird or all flock feed with some greens on the side.

I have been giving them layer as well as crushed egg shell. I added greens and boiled mashed up eggs thinking the extra protein would be good for them in the long run. I have seen no signs of sickness or paricites yet but I've only had them for two days.
