My pullets are starting to lay eggs for the first time in there life. But all the eggs are soft as paper. Whats going on. Do these pullets not work??? Please help
It's nothing to be too concerned about - it can take a while until they get their egg-laying plumbing sorted out. As long as you have either switched to layers feed, or growers feed with optional oyster shell (as a calcium supplement) then there's nothing to worry about.
If you feed layers feed, that should be 90% of their diet. If you feed them lots of scratch grains or other treats, provide them oyster shell in a separate container near the feed. Also feeding lots of scratch grains, corn or kitchen scraps, will cut the protein. That can have an effect on egg production. GC
