I hope no one will think that me asking for prayers and good thoughts for a goldfish is blasphemous but I couldn't think
where else to go to ask where folks wouldn't say "It's just a fish. How can you be so attached to a fish?!?".
My DS and I have worked for 9 months to get our little fish tank up and running and cycled. We finally got all the chemicals, ammonia,
nitrites, nitrites, etc. to the levels we need and were quietly celebrating our hard won victory (our municipal water source comes with lots of ammonia
so it's been an uphill battle..). I thought we were in like Flynn but today one of our fish is swimming and kind of 'listing' to one side.
She has a good appetite and looks bright-eyed and happy but swimming sideways isn't usually a good sign for fish. We've been though
(and our little school of fish) have been though so much to get this tank in good shape. To loose one at this stage of the game would
be so hard. So please, anyone who has a spare prayer or a little good juju to throw our way- we'd sure appreciate some good thoughts for our little
fish. Her name is Rhode Island Red (yes, a goldfish named for a chicken... ask my 5 yr old- it made sense to him..) and she is a little fantail goldfish.
Thank you so much ya'll. It helps to know that there are other folks out there who love all their pets no matter whether they have fur,
feathers or fins as much as we love our babies!

Blessings and best thoughts sent to your DS's fishy...

Maybe it is bloated, I had a fish that would get like that once in a while would swim right upside down. Try feeding it peas with the skin off it is supposed to help and seemed to help my fish. Hope your fishy makes it.

What size tank? What are you feeding? I give my goldfish different brands of flakes and pellets as well as live plants and peas. I think a lot of people have problems because they feed just flakes. That and the tank is too small and they don't do enough tank maintenance.

Thank you guys so much for all the prayers and good thoughts. Our fishie girl is still hanging with us today but also still leaning to that
one side when she swims.

LadyCrotalus- it's a 10 gallon tank that is fully cycled (finally! whew!) and I do water changes about 15-20% each week faithfully. I feed Tetrafin flakes
and Wardley pellets but I had never heard about peas and live plants. What kinds of plants do you feed? I did a water change last night just to be
on the safe side. I tested their water before and after the water change and it tested fine for ph, nitrites, nitrates, ammo, etc. everything was in a reasonable range
and everyone else in the tank seems fine. Thank you for helping me think this through and I'd love to hear more about the plants!

Andbab- what kind of peas do you feed? Canned, frozen, fresh? She was just listing to that one side but then this morning, as she was swimming, she did a full
'barrel roll' and went completely upside down as she turned. I hope it is something like the bloat you are describing- I'll try the peas today. Thank you!

Whispering Winds, I'm hoping that maybe since we caught it early we will have the time like you describe to sort out what's wrong and maybe save this little girl-
thank you for your thoughts!

Big hugs of thanks to Shadowhills and Redhen and Luvchicks and HeritageBirds! You guys are the best and I appreciate your prayers and thoughts so much!!
