Need some run recommendations

My run is on top of concrete (no where else to put it). Have been using sand for the last year. Bottom layer continually gets stinky and I have to remove it all and start fresh every couple months. I go through and pick up poop weekly. After this weeks rain storm, I am going to remove it all and start fresh. Tried putting in some lime and PDZ refresher and nothing helped. Would I be better to use a soil/sand mixture this time? If so, what type of soil would I buy at lowes/home depot?

Would it be possible to do 12" of wood chips?

no sand unless you’re in the desert.

is it possible to cover your run? wood chips would be the best, but whatever you put down won’t drain well because it’s sitting on concrete.

Sand only works if you can keep it perfectly dry.

Coarse wood chips are usually considered the gold standard for controlling mud, moisture, and odor.

Is the concrete slab sloped so it drains?

A big bag of blasting soda from harborfrieght, mixed in with the bottom few inches of substrate, might help. It works on goat urine, it might buy you some more time between cleanouts. I would add a layer of coarse gravel as the base, then coarse sand mixed with the soda, topped by more sand. Not advice, just some thoughts. Good luck.
