Have a frizzle chicken been injured by other chickens. I have a flock of mixed sizes which has always usually worked fine. Until today where they’ve pecked the life out of her and stripped her head. What should I do????? How do I treat this??? Sorry about the explicit photos

Hi there, sorry that your frizzle has been beaten up! Is the blood solely from feather pulling or are there larger wounds somewhere? Is she able to drink and eat on her own?

Hi she can drink and eat fine and seems completely fine it’s just the head. It looks like it’s all from feather pulling
That is good news! You may need to separate your victim hen until she heals up so she doesn't continue to be a target. I would also use a wound spray like vetericyn to help prevent infection.

If you have just a couple of bullies, I might separate the bullies from the group for awhile to try and reset the pecking order. Sometimes feather pulling can be a sign of other stress, like not enough space.

Hi
Definitely keep her separated. They will go after her again. This happened to one of mine but much worse, they literally scalped her. I kept her inside and cleaned twice a day with vetrycin plus and applied the blucote spray. It healed and her head feathers grew back fine, it only happened the once when it was raining 🤷‍♀️ So now I make sure they have plenty of cover so their heads don’t get wet, maybe they were intrigued or maybe just bored 🤷‍♀️

@FC16 I actually thought she was a cockerel to begin with, she was like top dog, it was only when I brought her inside to heal…she laid an egg! :gig

The two old hens who have been picking on her have been separated. Her hair has dried out and it’s gone less red so looking bit better. She is sticking with two younger ones who are guarding her, one is a young cockerel who is stepping up and protecting her.
How long with the feathers take to grow back?

Few months probably.
