I have been thinking about getting Mearns quail, and I was reading up on them and one source said the breeders (which I would be doing) need four sq. ft. per bird. Usually, I hear two or three square feet per bird so which is the correct size? I have read that they are extremely hard to raise, but is this true or is it more of an exaggeration than anything? For comparison how much harder or easier are they from a bobwhite or a button quail? My other question is what is there laying season, and if it doesn't go through the winter is there a way to get or keep them laying in winter?

I do not Know much about Mearns Quail but I know that they are a wild species so they will probably need more space then a coturnix.

You can fit about 4 to 5 coturnix in a small rabbit cage
