nest boxes from drawers?

This may be a hairbrained idea, but it may be really "thrifty".
Would a repurposed dresser drawer, with no bottom, using the drawer sliding action as access to eggs, work for nest boxes?

This is a rough idea, first concept drawing.

It might. You'd have to have some kind of predator-proofing, so nothing could just yank open the drawer and help themselves, though.
