Building a new coop but need guidance
on the nesting boxes. Should they be inside
the coop or outside?? Also I can get my
hands on a metal contraption from my in-laws
that currently hangs on the side of a shed.
It basically is a long nesting box mad of metal
that is 3 rows high. Any thoughts??

Nest box should be inside the coop. We've got one similar to what your in-laws have, don't have our chickens yet but alot of people make their own or use various other things for nests. But if they've got it and will let you use it, then I'd go for that! Some straw or shavings in each nest and you're good to go!

They could go either way couldnt they. I've seen nest boxes built on the outside attached to the coop. That way you can collect the eggs from the outside. I've seen metal nest boxes but I always wonder if the metal gets cold but maybe Im just being too sensitive, like sitting on a cold metal chair at my craft group meetings
