I have recently added 4 new chicks to my flock and two of them have no toes on their feet. I am trying to find out if this is a deformation or if it is a practice to clip the toes for some reason.
Where did you get them? I've heard of cutting beaks and clipping wings, but what could possibly be the purpose to cut off their towes? How do they balance?
I can't think of any reason for someone to clip toes....If they are from the same parents, it is likely a genetic disorder. It could also possibly have been caused by the way they were incubated. Can't wait to see pics
How do I upload pictures? I do not see a button that says attachment. Any technical help would be appreciated. After looking closer I think it is possibly an infection like bumble foot or something. I have them in a wired floor cage right now but will be putting down some cardboard this afternoon as I understand it is uncomfortable for the chicks. the farm bought the chicks from didn't appear to be very clean. Hopefully I haven't brought disease home with them.
In the blue tool bar at the top of the screen click uploads. It will open another window where you can browse your photos and upload the one(s) you want. Then copy the line and paste in your post.
Can't wait to see pics!
Do the chicks appear uncomfortable? Are they eating/drinking/pooping ok? Can they stand? Is it all the toes on both feet? Is it the last knuckle or all the way back to the ankle?
