I have 4 BSL that began laying on March 1st. Don't know who's laying what or when but they started with 2 the first day then 1 the next and 1 the following day. The last couple of days 3 @ day and 1 the next. The last two days there has been a smaller than all the rest where the outside of shell is chalky looking. What's up, anybody?

Their bodies are adjusting to laying. You are likely to see an odd egg once in a while at any time, but especially when they first start laying.

I’m not sure what you mean by "chalky”? You can look through the egg shell defects portion at this link and maybe find what you are seeing. I’m guessing it is some type of calcium deposit but that’s just a guess. I’m not looking at them.

It is not unusual for a pullet just starting to lay to turn out some odd eggs. There are a lot of different parts to her internal egg making factory. Most get it right to start with but some pullets take a bit of practice to get all the kinks out of their system.
