Couple of questions folks! Got some 2.5 week old chicks. The guy thought he picked all hens for me. One chick is bigger, and much more dominant, and actually flew out of the brooder today! Do roosters fly earlier than hens or is this indicative of the breed! He/she is a Black Australorp. Thanks all! I am open to any and all helpful hints this is my first BYFlock!

Some chicks are just bigger than others [IMG]

But then, it could be a rooster [IMG]

Mine are black australorps and are three weeks old and some times are jumpy. Some are bigger than others. They should be hens cause I paid to have them sexxed.

My black australorp is bigger than the other chicks her age. More confident too, if that makes sense. But she's a hen, so maybe it's a breed thing. Or just her "personality" (chickenality?)

    Welcome to the BYC [IMG]

Did you buy from a breeder that sexed them for you? How did you get them?

    Steve,

Yes..I bought them from a breeder who sexed them and said if any turn up to be roosters then I can bring them back and trade them out for hens around the same age
