New baby hen

I recently just purchased a baby hen, how long can they live without a heat lamp?

Have you only got one chick? Do you not have a heat source at all?

Your chick NEEDS warmth from a heat source & at least 2 more to keep it company. What do you have for feed? What are you keeping it in? Inside or out? Where are you located?

I’m located in Ilion NY, I am keeping it inside until the snow melts. I have corn meal for feed.

You need a heat source and chick starter feed...cornmeal is not a good chick food.
How old is this 'baby hen' and where did you get it??

Here's some information for you. Your chick may do better with company. However, you will need to keep it warm, dry, well ventilated, and feed a good quality chick starter. Otherwise your lone chick my die within 24 hours.

What are you using for a heat source? You must keep it at 90* for at least the first few days. A chick without adequate heat will die a slow death. And giving it a blanket or other covering to snuggle up in will not suffice. Chicks can't produce enough heat to survive until they are feathered out.

....they usually won't sell just one.

Hmm... One chick from TSC? They should not have just sold you one, they need to be part of a flock.

I would go back ASAP and get a few more and some supplies
