So i got my first family of chicks, I got Orpington's. 6 Female and 1 male. They are only a day old. This is my first go around, so any advice would be great. Any things special i should do since they are so young?

Currently I have them in a container in my house with a heat lamp. Heat lamp needed in the house?? Thanks guys, appreciate the help!

They need a heat lamp even in the house. You should keep them in a draft free brooder/container for 4 - 6 wks. Starting with the temp at 90 and decrease by 5 degrees each week. Make sure they can get away from the heat lamp if need. Also, make sure the food and water is not too close to the heat.

Food - chick starter crumbles. Water and absorbent bedding. Wood chips or shavings as long as they are not cedar.

Lol, I defintaley need to make some progress on it these next few weeks! Have the wood bought! Ready to start! Luckily I have some friends an my church that are pretty handy and they work for pizza :) By my calculations it seems like its gonna be big. The house is 6x6 and then an 8 foot run. Do you think that's enough?? Looking at coops at the store it seems like it should be. Hope it all turns out ok!

Yes, I do think that's big enough for 7. They may want to be paid in eggs this time[IMG]

That's the problem. You just can't help but fall in love with the little buggars.
