Hello All - BRAND new to backyard chickendom and I’ve had my brooder going for 3 weeks now. REALLY having a hard time IDing a few of my babies, as I got a 10-count mixed rare and standard from Hoover’s Hatchery. I was also informed by a fellow chicken owner that the first chick is likely a rooster. Any and all hep will be GREATLY appreciated. Excited to be here.

Hello and welcome to chickens and to BYC!

At this age, it is hard to ID breeds unless they have very breed specific characteristics. Crest, five toes, beard, black skin etc.

With your chicks, we will need to see them completely feathered out to make an accurate guess.
