I just purchased a 2 1/2 month old pullet and she smells terrible! I saw her before I took her home and her eyes looked good, her nostrils looked a little wet but not crusty or dripping. It was when I got home and moved her from the carrier she came in to the dog crate I have for new chickens that I noticed the smell. The closest I could describe the smell is of rotten eggs. The dog crate is near my chick brooder. Should I move her farther away from the chicks? I probably won't get any responses till morning so will my baby chicks be fine overnight with the pullet so close by?

The damage may already be done, but I would quarantine any new bird I brought onto my property for at least 3 weeks.

Whe I got some started pullets they had a nasty, musty smell to them. It dissipated on its own over the course of about 2 weeks. I think it was from whatever bedding they were housed on before I got them.
