    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I am new here and very excited about this whole chicken thing! My name is Cindy and I live in Paso Robles, CA. My husband and I have 4 children and one on the way. I know, like I really needed chickens to keep me busy right now.
My husband and I are buying our first house and moving out to the country. I explained to him that if we were going to have chickens that we should get them now so they would be big enough to put in a coop by the time we moved. He thought it sounded crazy. So I went on Ideal's website and ordered 23 chickens of various breeds. One of the varieties I wanted were on backorder, so I canceled my order 3 days later and started looking elsewhere.
Anyway, my husband told me that he wanted to take me out and it was a surprise. I thought we were going to get an icecream, but he took me to the Farm Supply store in our town and told me that I needed to pick out two (and only two) baby chicks and all of the supplies I would need. I was so shocked and excited. this was even better than icecream!
They are adorable little Ameraucanas, and I am sure that I will have a lot of questions, so I will thank you all in advance for your words of wisdom. [IMG]
By the way, our two little girls (no names yet) are one week old today. Yay!

    Hi Cindy!
Welcome to the forum. Don't worry, hubby will love the chicks and, before you know it, you'll be bringing more home. [IMG] Trust me on this one!
How is life up in Paso? I love it up there. My husband grew up skiing on Lake San Antonio and I've roped at Mid State Fair a few times. Last time we were up there was about a year and a half ago... Man has it grown!
Anyway, post a couple pics of your girls when you get a chance!

    Carri,
Thank you for the warm welcom. Paso Robles is great. I moved here from a city of over 300,000 people, so Paso is a BIG change with only 26,000. I love the whole small town thing.
I will be getting more chicks in the very near future. Hubby is asking that I wait until I have my coop built and placed at the new home. We are moving late June. I love the Ameraucanas, but I really wanted a variety. So many chickens, so little time. [IMG]
I will post a pic once I figure out how. I am still trying to learn the ropes of this site.

Hi Cindy......welcome to the madness! [IMG] Ohhh, I think we all start out with just one or two....last year, I started with one rescued, injured roo...then he needed a few hens..to keep him company [IMG] ...after the coop was done, well, it was just WAY too big for only 4 chickens....so I got 15 or so more...that was fine through the winter...but my egg orders keep growing, and my poor little RIR cant keep up, so I ordered 19 Buff Orpingtons...and got a free little Dominique hen...then 3 frizzles...and now another rescued Polish Roo...( who needs a few ladies) [IMG] So far, I think I am up to 40ish...with about 25 eggs in the bator, and a frizzle setting on a dozen more eggs. Time to build ANOTHER coop! [IMG]

For uploading your photos on here...go to photobucket....its fast and easy. I cant waite to see them babies!!

    Deb,
I have a sneaky feeling that I may end up walking in your footsteps. Wow! You are quite the collector.
As promised, here are a couple of pictures of our two little chicks. They are so sweet.
