Hi everyone-love this site so far!
We are in the process of building our coop and looking to get our chicks next month. We are going to start with 6-8 for now. I would like to have a mixed flock of friendly, good egg layers. Any breed suggestions would be welcomed!

I will start taking some pic's of the coop.

You'll find some interesting breed info here. As far as personal preferences - I love the orpingtons - just as sweet as can be and great egg layers! Wyandottes are very pretty and good layers. If you like eggs with different shell colors - look into ameracaunas (blue tinted eggs) and marans (dark brown) -

Welcome from another Lisa!

I would suggest Orpingtons, EEs, Rocks, Australorps for friendly egg layers. Cochins are very friendly but not great layers. Rhode Island Reds are fanstastic layer but not that friendly.
