Hi All, I am new to chicken keeping. Been using this site for quite a while now, and I just love it! Gotten so much valuable info from it. I got my first four-day-old chicks in August. Got 6 different breeds; Buff Orpington (my spoiled cuddle bug), one Black Australorp (kind friendly), one Easter Egger (spazoid runt), one Delaware (stand-offish), one Gold Laced Wyandotte (kinda fraidy, but getting better), and an unknown red bird (thankfully, he seems to be the only Roo in the batch) who may be a red Plymouth, but I'm not sure. I'm spoiling the little Roo, and he's pretty sweet; hoping it'll make him a nice boy. Just got moved from the spare bathroom clawfoot tub to their new coop and run. Happily, we live in an area with several other flocks, and a couple roos, nearby. Our area is only zoned for hens, but no one seems to be real concerned around here. The city seems not to care much unless someone calls and complains. We also get a lot of hawks, owls, bobcat, coyote, rats, opossum, and weasels on a rare occasion, so the whole coop/run is built like Fort Knox. We also have questionable two-leggeds in the neighborhood, but that's another post... Our weather is pretty good for birds; low 100's mid-Summer, occasional frost in Spring, high 20* at the lowest. Besides the feathered kids, we have four cats, and a Uromastyx lizard, all fairly spoiled as well. Oh, and a very tolerant husband That's it! Angela B.
