Hello! I have been doing a lot of research and I finally decided to start raising my own flock of chickens for a hobby as well as for eggs (and potentially meat in the future). I ordered 4 started (22 week old) pullets from murray mcmurray and they are due to arrive this week. (i felt started pullets may be safer as a first timer because i was nervous about raising chicks) I have my coop ready with all of my supplies, but i am still nervous being a first timer! So if anyone has any tips pointers or advice it would be greatly appreciated!! i live in new jersey and ordered 2 delawares, a rhode island red and a barred Plymouth rock. Thanks! and thanks for such an awesome and informative website!!

Probably much of the information you are looking for can be found in the Learning Center, or by surfing through the different forums. Hope you enjoy your new birds!

Hello :frow and Welcome to BYC! Since you are getting started pullets you might check out the Housing and Feeding your chickens section. Older birds usually ship pretty well, so hopefully they will be fine and you will be getting those first eggs soon.

Greetings from Texas! I think you are smart as a first timer to order 22-week old pullets rather than babies. Good luck with your new hobby!
