New Chicken Owner

Hi All from Chico, CA. My husband and I recently got two 4-6 month old Marans. We love watching them adjust to their new home and they seem to be settling in. It's wonderful to have this resource available. Any idea as to when we might expect them to start laying? We have only had them for 4 days so far.

Hi and from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. It should be any time now. You should have a nest box ready maybe use a fake egg so they get the idea. Once they are comfortable with their surroundings they should start laying. If they are not on layer feed, you might want to start them soon. 18-26 wks is usually when chickens start laying depending on breed. Good luck.
