I have a buff Orpington hen that's about a year old. I want to order more chicks but I don't know if my hen will take care of the chicks. Will she take care of chicks if they aren't her own?

She will only take care of them if she is broody.

I would certainly not count on her helping you in the least. You will most likely have to brood them yourself I would expect. As noted above if she is/was broody there is a chance you could slip them in under her in the night and she 'might' take them. But even that little tricks does not work all of the time.
