How can you tell a barred rock female from male? A new chic 4 weeks old has some large n long tail feathers and we were told its suppose to be a hen. Thanks in advance for advice

I believe that barred can be a sex linked color. (I think it's the head marking in young chicks one's a giant white head and ones not) I think it'd be too early to tell what sex they are now but keep an eye on those long tail feathers as they can possibly be sickle feathers which is something that indicates cockerel

Way too soon to tell...please post closeup head shots and side view shots at about 8-12 weeks minimum....

It's not really about the tail, it's about the amount of barring the bird has, and the comb. Here's a good link...
