So this is the shell of my coop. It's an old one ton truck box. It has a plywood floor already. We are going to line it with rigid insulation and separate areas so I have a place for feed etc outside of their area. They will also have a fair sized run avaliable to them. We have about 2 months to get everything done before the chick's go outside.

Great way to reuse that! I would opt for cutting ventilation holes rather than adding insulation. Generally speaking your hens are much more likely to get too hot than too cold.

Good stuff. I've been trying to figure out why you're adding insulation. Is it to cut down on the radiant heat that the sun is going to generate on those metal walls? Are you going to use the foil backed kind?

I live in canada and we get -40 days here. I guess we are going to use walk in freezer panels as dividers so it will hold in the heat on the coop side. My dad is doing the building of this and he has been a contractor for over 40 years so I just get today to shhhh. Lol

Wow that's cold. For contrast, what are your summer highs like?

We can get a couple weeks of +30 but usually 20-27+ so 70-90 for very hot days. Right now for daytime Temps it's 40 to 60 on a really good day. Today only in the 30s

So interior of the coop hopefully you can understand my chicken scratch. [IMG]

Two windows will go on the far wall
Below that will be the door for the chickens.
Where the two metal squares are, the divider for the coop and storage area. There will be a man door there so i can enter.
