New coop

Hi, im just about finished with my new coop (pictures coming) which is 4' x 8' with a second level for plenty of fresh air. I also built a new run which is 12' x 16' and connected to the garden for some fresh bugs... My question is i would love to add more chicks to the coop, how many chicks can i have safely, without cramping the girls???

Since you live in an area that gets cold in the winters, I would not crowd too many chickens inside since during the winter they may want to spend more time inside. So eight large fowl chickens would be good or 12 bantams.

Most people on this site recommend 4sq ft per bird inside the coop and 10sq ft per bird in the run. So a 4'x8' coop has 32 sq ft and that's enough for 8 full size birds.
