As we move towards putting up walls for the play structure chicken coop, I realize we need a roof. Do I need to have a shingled roof for the New England winter? Or may I consider a channeled plastic (Tuftex) roof? I'm leaning away from a pitched roof and leaning towards a single slope.

You might have meant to post in the coop section of the forum, where you might have gotten more responses. Since I have been thinking about roofing issues lately, I actually have something to say. We have a single slope roof which is is a relatively shallow slope. Well it turns out that shingles are for roofs that are more steep, so that is why my coop keeps springing leaks... grrrr. I considered covering over the top with plastic panels like Tuftex but I read about the panels cracking easily where they are secured. I think I decided to go with a product called Ondura panels which are made out of the the same stuff as shingles, but is three times as thick and is coated. The size of the panels 79" x 48" happens to work well for our coop. Metal panels would be another option. Think about how windy your coop location could be when you decide how you are going to attach roofing to the coop.
