We entered into the world of chickens officially today. Me and my son built a brooder box and got our first chicks today. We got 5 Barrd Rocks and 3 Silkies. Don't know the sex as we bought from a small farmer. We saw the Papa of all the BRs and he was a monster. I haven't seen alot of chickens but he was the biggest I've ever seen. We were talked into the silkies by the kids after they saw what they looked like as adults. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks to eveyone for the useful info in helping us get going. The top of the wall and roof were covered with wire after taking the pick.
