I was wondeing if someone might help me get chickens at our local Martin County Jail?
Hello there and welcome to BYC!
First you will need to contact your local city hall and see if it is legal to keep chickens in your city. Then you might stop by feed stores in the spring for chicks or if you are looking for adult birds, many times feed stores have billboards that they post up hens for sale.
You might also stop by our Buy Sell and Trade section for someone nearby that might be giving away or selling hens....https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/67/buy-sell-trade
Also, stop by our learning center too for lots of good articles on getting started with chickens and all other things pertaining to raising them...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
Good luck with this project and I hope you can get it going soon!
I've contacted my city hall and they say no to chickens on the jail property...but I think there are some avenues to pursue? They said something about being a state issue. Also, as far as my cottage west of the jail they say I am not zoned correctly.

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions as to how to get chickens allowed in your area. You may find some helpful information in these forums: Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances (and how to change them)
Good luck, and I hope you can find a way to keep chickens!
