Hello all! I just placed my first chick order ever! Only four chickens... And I'm going to look for a Silkie at a later date. I'm hoping to learn all I can before they arrive April 21st! I'm so excited. :)

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'm sure that you must be very excited awaiting the delivery of your new chicks.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread will also put you in contact with other BYC members in your area.

The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

    All the best

When it comes time to add more chickens to your flock, read up on integration. And before you integrate new birds, don't forget to isolate the new ones for 30 days to avoid bringing in an illness or pests to your existing flock.

Thanks for joining us, enjoy the chicks!
