Hello everyone!! I don't actually have chickens yet, but will be getting some this spring. I'm so excited!! I have a few friends who have chickens but I don't get to see them often. Im looking forward to learning as much as I can about raising backyard chickens for eggs! Thinking of starting a binder where I can write notes and put articles etc. are there any books that the library may have that would be good to read to help get me prepped?

If you haven't already done so, check out the Learning Center (the brown tab at the top)...it's full of useful information and covers a wide range of topics.

I think one of the best books is "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens". I bought a copy but your library probably has it too.

Make yourself at home here and if you have questions, always feel free to ask!

Thanks! I'm going to the library tomorrow with the toddler I'll look to see if they have it!

Welcome!

Very exciting! I wish you and your flock all the best when they arrive.

There are some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
