Hi! We are a family of 5 that live on 1.25 acres in Perry Hall. We have been thinking about and researching backyard chickens for awhile and are ready to get started. My father-in-law is building us a coop/run area. Now we need advice on what type of chicks/hens and where do we get them from? We have 3 kids (10, 6 and 4) and our purpose for having backyard chickens are for: backyard pets, family time project/activity and of course - eggs!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Kendra

from Connecticut! Peacocks are male peafowl and peahens are female peafowl. "Orps" are a breed of chicken called "Orpington."

I bought my first chickens from MyPetChicken.com They have a great breed selector tool that can help you decide on the type of chickens that are right for you. They mail them to you when they are a day old and they usually arrive when they are three days old.

I hope that helps (although it is only one resource among an unlimited number of places to get chickens, it's a good start and a reliable, reputable company).
