Last time I had anything to do with chickens I was in my teens and that has been awhile ago, the chickens were my Mom's featherbrats. This last Spring my Great Niece and I decided to get some chicks we ended up with 6 amercuna, that I suspect are Easter Eggers, 2 white Leghorns, 2 Welsumer, 3 California Greys. We didn't really know what we wanted at the time so we thought we would try a mix.

We got lucky and all are now laying hens - I THINK as there may be a possibility there is a rooster hiding in the amercuna. I think as 2 seem not to do the chicken submit, but don't see any of the rooster tail feathers and the heads look rather rooish to me. No crowing so maybe I am wrong seeing they are 7 months old now.

I found BYC by BING ing to get help on when they would be laying and run size. Since then I have been lurking and reading posts that have been a BIG help.

Other then the chickens my other hobbies are playing World of Warcraft - I am addicted to the internet, leathercrafting, and beadwork. I no longer work, early retirement as I have back/knee problems that can be very painful. I cope keeping busy doing things on our piece of land on the back of the earth.

Besides having chickens I guess we can be considered Crazy Cat Ladies (My Sis, My Great Niece & I). We rescue cats, kittens. litters, ferals or whatever shows up at our door. Nurse them back to health and find homes for them to get them out of the countryside.

Glad you found us! I look forward to reading your posts.

My kids think I am a crazy cat lady - our neighbors cat had kittens whose kittens had kittens and the original had more kittens and I got fed up since they seem to have adopted me and I got them all fixed before I was overcome by cats. So we have 6 inside cats and 9 outside plus a few that come for a meal once in a while - got them fixed too.

If your suspected rooster crows then you will know for sure.

Yes I love the animals, my Niece called me from school this afternoon "Anty I have a surprise for you...." [IMG] Someone had brought 3 8wk old kittens to school, 1 was claimed by another student and no one would take the little grey and tuxedo. So she decided to bring the kittens home and called me for a ride home as couldn't take them on the bus. We have 2 new furbrats to foster up and find homes for, I think she wants to keep the lil grey kitten. Since she was little we have been taking care of strays and rescuing cats, she now goes out and helps where she can. She is a great kid [IMG] The new additions take the house count to 9 cats, 1 dog, 13 chickens.

Thank you for the nice hello!

And encouraging children to be compassionate towards animals is good for the kids as well as for the animals.

[IMG] what a beautiful place to live - do you have problems with the cats going after the chickens?
