    Hallo peeps,

Just got two new 16-week old pullets yesterday (as well as two 8-week old silkies, yay!), I got the part that they were sex links with one parent being a RIR, but what could the other half be?

They are both partridge pattern, dark legs, one of them has feathers on the legs (see pics below) but the other one doesn't. Otherwise they look pretty much the same.

Apologies for the crappy photos taken with flash in a darkish coop, it's their first morning here and they are hiding in a corner as the troop isn't being too friendly with them yet... Poor sweeties, ain't no fun being at the bottom of the pecking order. They are healthy and half my flock comes from this breeder so I didn't separate them (I don't have any place to put them now that it's below freezing at night).

    Opinions on breed mix? [IMG]

I'm no expert but they look like Black Copper Marans to me. [IMG]

    Wouldn't that be cool!

However the breeder doesn't have any black copper marans and told me the girls were a RIR mix... I forgot to ask her "with what?" so I am stuck. She does have a pair of Cochins, could that be a possibility? [IMG]

Could be light brahma. I think you can get sex-links that way, and that would explain the feathered legs. Do any of them have pea combs?

Or maybe I'm thinking red sex-links [IMG]

I'll try to get better pics when they are less shy... they don't have much comb or wattles yet from what I see. Still a few months away from laying.

Fun to play the guessing game, eh? LOL

ps: the breeder has cochins, faverolles, RIR's, turkens, frizzles, silkies, barred plymouth rocks and a few other neat breeds.
