I got this beautiful girl at the auction today. I was AMAZED to find such a clean, friendly & sweet girl!! She seems to have been someone's pet before. she very much wants to be with me all the time.
I thought she may be pregnant but now after getting a better look at her i think she may have recently given birth. She has Milk, not colostrum & 1 side of her udder is really low(but does have milk), the other side was very hard & hot to begin with but i let my little doeling nurse off of her some and the i milked her more, it definitely feels softer/better now. I know i am going to have to keep on top of milking that side until it's back to normal, or at least letting the baby girl nurse her. She will stand for the bay IF i hold her. she is perfectly fine with me milking her.(yay!) she really is in great shape and very clean. She cost me $80.
should i give her a shot of pinn?(just in case)
Could she still possibly be pregnant?
if it is mastitis i am glad i got her before it was bad. i had a heifer that was the same way and after plenty of milking sessions she was back to normal & feeding her baby again.
We named her Shirley(we'll see if it fits though)
